StreetTeam Music

For distributors

StreetTeam Music takes catalogue from distributors and labels over DDEX. This page is the short version of our intake spec, for partnerships and delivery teams.

Status

We're onboarding our first delivery partners. Delivered catalogue is not live yet. The details below are the profile our intake is built to, and we run your test deliveries with you before anything goes live.

What StreetTeam Music is

  • A US music store and streaming service where artists sell and stream directly to the people who follow them.
  • Anyone can hear the first 30 seconds of a song free. A metered full stream costs 1 StreetTeam coin, or one of the artist's own tokens when the listener holds them. Songs the artist makes free, and songs the listener already owns, stream in full at no charge.
  • Listeners get coins from a $10/month plan (1,000 coins a month, unused coins roll over) or from coin packs.
  • Listeners can also buy a song or a release to keep. Artists set the price (100 coins a song by default).
  • Artists who sell directly are paid at least 90% of the cash behind every coin spent on their music. Coin packs include bonus coins, so we pay and report on the cash a coin actually carried, not its face value.
  • For delivered catalogue we propose the same 90% of net cash, paid to you. The final share is set in each agreement.

What we accept

  • Messages: DDEX ERN 4.3, and ERN 3.8.2. Release profiles Audio and SimpleAudioSingle. No video yet.
  • Message types: NewReleaseMessage, read as the complete statement of truth for its release (all metadata, resources and every active and future deal), and PurgeReleaseMessage. ERN 3.8.2 updates and takedowns map onto the same two paths.
  • Test messages: a TestMessage is processed in full into a sandbox and never listed.
  • Choreography: ERN Part 3, Choreographies for Cloud-based Storage, in the release-by-release and batch profiles. Batches are processed in batch-folder order.
  • Transport: S3 (a write-only prefix and credential of your own) or SFTP.
  • Audio: FLAC or WAV (PCM), stereo, at least 16-bit / 44.1 kHz. Up to 24-bit / 192 kHz is accepted and kept. No lossy masters.
  • Artwork: JPEG or PNG, RGB, square. 3000 × 3000 px preferred, 1400 × 1400 px minimum.
  • Identifiers: a UPC/EAN, GRid or proprietary ID for each release, an ISRC for each recording, and a HashSum for each file. We match on these so one recording never appears twice in the store.
  • Previews: we cut the 30-second preview from your master, starting where your clip details say. We do not take separate preview files.

What we send back

  • Acknowledgements: an ERN AcknowledgementMessage for every release message, within an hour of the delivery completing. FileOK means ingested, not yet live.
  • Sales and usage reports: a monthly DDEX DSR, Basic Audio profile (MRBV), one per calendar month. Streams and sales are reported per recording and country, at the cash actually paid. We pay first and report second.

Deal types

The commercial models we intend to support:

CommercialModelTypeUseTypeIn the store
PayAsYouGoModelOnDemandStream or StreamPay per stream: 1 coin after the free 30-second preview.
SubscriptionModelOnDemandStream or StreamStreams paid from plan coins. Which model you want plan-funded streams reported under is agreed with you.
FreeOfChargeModelOnDemandStream or StreamA free full stream. No coin is charged.
PayAsYouGoModelPermanentDownloadBuy to keep. Priced from your WholesalePricePerUnit or price tier, and never below wholesale.
FreeOfChargeModelPermanentDownloadA free download.
  • Territory: we are US-first. A deal applies when it covers the US.
  • Windows: we honour both the start and the end of each deal's validity period. Deals may overlap.
  • Pre-orders: the release page shows, and play and buy stay off until the window opens.
  • Not supported: ad-supported models (we run no ads), non-interactive streams, and conditional or tethered downloads.

Takedowns

  • A NewReleaseMessage with no deals, a PurgeReleaseMessage, or an ERN 3.8.2 takedown takes the release down. We honour it on receipt.
  • The release leaves the store within 24 hours of our acknowledgement, and sooner when a deal's end date has passed. It comes out of search, playlists and the home page, and new streams and sales stop.
  • We keep the accounting records so past streams and sales are still reported. A purge also removes the media after the retention period.

Rights and fraud controls

These run in the store today:

  • Audio fingerprinting: each release is sent for an audio fingerprint scan when it is listed. A confident match to someone else's recording takes it out of the store until we review it. A scan that fails is logged, and the release stays listed in the meantime.
  • Server-side play log: every play is logged on our server. A stream is billable only once it passes the 30-second preview and is paid for.
  • Usage ledger: every paid stream and every song bought with coins records the ISRC, the listener's country, the seconds heard and the cash paid, in the same transaction as the payment. Release purchases are reported from their payment records, valued per recording, with the buyer's billing country.
  • Rate limits: each listener is capped at 600 new plays an hour. The cap limits how far unpaid play counts can be pushed; it does not by itself prove a play was heard.
  • Rights holds: we review every copyright notice and put a hold on the release when we uphold it. An artist with repeated upheld notices has their listings suspended.

Today the 30-second preview is enforced by our player. Delivered catalogue will be served from a preview clip we cut on the server.
